So this lovely ad was plastered all over my Friends Page this morning:

Yuck. Whatever my thoughts on same-sex marriage, I do not want this in my space. It's disgusting, deliberately perverting Day of Silence imagery (because marriage is far from the only thing they want to "defend;" the right for their kids to beat up queers at school is pretty high on the list too).

And this is why I've switched to Dreamwidth.

	This is disturbing in a lot of ways. Whether LJ believes it or not, allowing a company to buy ad space on their servers is a tacit endorsement of what that company is selling/promoting. For the lure of $$ they've gotten in bed with the bigots of NOM. This should not be ignored. (Reply to this) (Thread)

	Oh, relax. Most ad servers throw stuff in that it takes a while for someone to notice and refuse. And if the ads are targeted at all, they're showing up a lot for people with "gay" and/or "marriage" on their pages. Let's not jump to "LJ is in bed with bigots" right away. 	Your link to your DW doesn't render right (at least in some LJ styles). I think it probably needs an http:// in the html before the 'snugglebitch.dreamwidth.org'. 	The cool thing about Dreamwidth is that even if you don't migrate you can still come over and play pretty easily and it's even easier for those on DW to play here on LJ. (Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

	"I do not want this in my space"... To be fair, it isn't your space. It's LiveJournal's - and I guess in the current climate, they're taking as much advertising as they can. :-( And of course you are well within your rights to go to another supplier like Dreamwidth, or set up your own site. 	Thank you for posting this. I have ad blocker up, so I wouldn't see these even if I didn't have paid time to run out. While it's an appalling ad, it's good to be aware that it's out there, and that LJ is making money from hosting it. (Reply to this)

	Wait. Hold the phone. People see ads on LJ? boggles There are ad blocking utilities for nearly any browser you can name. Why put yourself through the hassle of seeing ads when you don't have to? Granted, I have the added benefit of being blind but still ... Hugs (Reply to this) (Thread)
